What is the difference between dehydrated and dry skin?
Dry skin is a skin type where the skin will lack oil this can be genetically determined or can be influenced by other environmental factors that have a direct effect on the oil gland not producing enough oil. Dehydrated skin is when the skin is lacking water, which means that even an oily skin that has an over reactive oil gland, can still experience dehydration on the skin. |

Main causes of Dehydration/ Dry skin: |
- Intrinsic Aging :
- This is the normal process of aging, that everyone will experience. Activity of the sebaceous gland ( oil gland ) tend to decrease with age, and the skins natural ability to secrete appropriate amounts of oil will have an effect on the skin creating Dry Skin.
- Weather and Environmental Effects :
- Prolonged exposure to the sun causes water to evaporate from the skin, likewise, cold winds, air conditioning, forced air heating and low temperatures can also dry out the skin, leaving you with Dehydrated skin ( skin lacking water ).
- Lifestyle :
- The trend of fat-free diets can deprive our bodies of skin friendly Essential Fatty Acids. This deficiency can result in chronic itching, dryness, scaling and thinning of the skin. Excess alcohol consumption can aslo contribute to dehyrdrated skin and also certain medications, such as nasal decongestants.
