What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a non- contagious skin condition that effects the middle third of the face causing persistent redness over the areas of the face and nose that normally blush. The tiny vessels in these areas enlarge, and become visible through the skin, appearing like tiny red lines. It effects mostly people in their 30s-50s and who are fair skinned, it is very rare to see in children.
Acne can also occur in these areas, it is often mistaken for commen acne, but it is known as Rosacea acne. They appear as small acne-like lumps on the surface of the skin around the chin, cheeks and forehead. In extreme cases these lumps appear on the nose and join together making the nose appear swollen, a condition known as rhinophyma. The cause of Rosacea is unknown but their are some factors that have been found to aggravate Roscaea and these are: |
